The Youth Stress Centre

Part of Royston Stress Centre, the Youth Stress Centre offers an outreach service to 11-18 year olds in North Glasgow. We work with young people to help them recognise and develop the emotional tools and capabilities to deal with life.

The Programme

"YSC enhance the Personal and Social Education Programme, which contributes to raising attainment."
  Principal teacher

We have teamed up with local schools to promote emotional and intellectual growth in tandem. Each year we work with approximately 400 young people from three local secondary schools through our Emotional Literacy programmes.

What is Emotional Literacy?

Broadly it is the ability to understand and talk about feelings and to be aware of the impact that this can have on not just one life, but on the lives of those around you.

"There should be more classes like this."
  Young person

Working with young people, we help them to recognise and manage their own feelings and to empathise with their classmates and others involved in their lives.

Our Approach

Each young person is recognised as an individual with unique needs and interests.

We believe in empowering young people, providing opportunities to gain more control of their lives and enhance and unlock their potential. We involve young people in the planning and development of the programmes.

"I think it will help me with my career."

"I now listen to people and I get less angry."

"I understand how to create relationships."

"I've learned how to be calm before an exam."
